For the inaugural installation of this annual Pride event, we turn to our own history. We explore the friendship between artist Ellsworth Kelly (1923-2015) and architects and collectors Werner Feibes (b. 1929) and James Schmitt (1925-2013). Kelly, a proponent of abstraction in art, which Feibes and Schmitt collected, nonetheless, drew assured character sketches of his close friends. With examples drawn from The Hyde’s Feibes & Schmitt Collection, this exhibition juxtaposes cerebral, minimalist works with highly personal drawings and doodles.
