Gallery Talk with Lisa Bixenstine Safford

October 19, 2023 @ 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm

Join art historian Lisa Bixenstine Safford for an in-depth look at works on paper to explore the relationship between the two exhibitions Edgar Degas, The Private Impressionist: Works on Paper by the Artist and his Circle and Degas at The Hyde: A Master of Form.

Lisa Bixenstine Safford recently retired after thirty years as professor of art history and art department chair at Hiram College in Northeast Ohio. Dr. Safford’s approach to the arts is broad, global, and interdisciplinary. While her training was concentrated in 19th and early 20th century European and American art, with a PhD from Ohio State University focused on works by Edgar Degas, she also taught Ancient, Renaissance, Baroque, Japanese and Indian art. Dr. Safford has taught docent classes at the Columbus Museum of Art and the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown.
