GLENS FALLS, New York—The Hyde Collection invites artists to participate in its annual Plein Air Festival, to be held August 7 to 11, 2019, throughout the Glens Falls area.
The Plein Air Festival celebrates the Museum, community, and art inspired by the outdoors. The festival culminates at The Hyde’s annual Community Day event Sunday, August 11. Community Day is a free admission event that includes tours, art activities, and fun at the Museum inspired by the permanent collection and special exhibition From the Rooftops: John Sloan and the Art of the New Urban Space.
Community Day will feature a pop-up art show of juried Plein Air artists’ artworks, a plein air “Art Battle” activity open to all creative community members, and an award ceremony honoring juried Plein Air artists and Art Battle participants.
The deadline for application for this year’s Plein Air Festival is Monday, April 15. Participating artists will be selected by guest juror George Van Hook.

His travels brought him to France, Italy, Holland, and England, making movies, copying paintings at the Louvre, and painting en plein air. He returned to the United States, settling in Cambridge.
“I looked around and thought, ‘This is the most beautiful part of the East Coast,’ ” he said of his home along the Battenkill. “Life is good, and I just paint it.”
The nationally recognized artist has won numerous plein air competitions and awards for his oils and watercolors. He teaches plein air workshops around the country.
