The emotional and physical benefits of art experiences for children are indisputable. As many schools struggle with budget cuts, art classes are among the programs being eliminated or cut back.
A new article from The Art Newspaper looks at the critical role nonprofits play in providing arts education to children, especially in impoverished cities.
This region is fortunate in that many schools are still able to offer art classes. The Hyde, though, plays a vital role in offering children ways to interact with and experience art. Children of all ages — from schools with flourishing art programs, schools that are suffering from cuts, and who are home-schooled — come to The Hyde to learn, have fun, and create.
Beginning with the youngest babies in the Museum’s monthly Art Crawl (10:30 am Friday, October 4), and continuing through the preschool Tours for Tots (10:30 am Thursdays when public school is in session) and school years in Artful Afternoons (2:30 to 4:30 pm Wednesdays during the school year), The Hyde offers free programs to ensure children reap all the benefits of experiencing art.
