Over the summer, The Hyde Collection invited everyone to read a book — with a theme linked to our summer exhibition — then scheduled meetings to discuss it as a group.
The result was two really interesting discussions with people who love art and reading. It went so well, we decided to do it again.
Inspired by our winter exhibition, Picasso, Braque & Léger, The Hyde Book Club will read In Montmartre: Picasso, Matisse, and the Birth of Modernist Art by Sue Roe.
As with the summer book, the Museum has teamed with Northshire Books in Saratoga Springs: The bookstore ordered copies of the book and will offer participating Hyde Book Club members a 20 percent discount on them.
The group will meet at 1 pm Wednesday, November 6, at The Hyde Collection to discuss the book in Wood Gallery, where prints by the three modern artists will be exhibited. Participation in the discussion is free; regular Museum admission rates apply ($12 general admission, $10 for seniors, free for students, members, veterans, and active military members).
October, it turns out, is National Reading Group Month. To celebrate, Northshire is hosting a special event at 6 pm Thursday, October 24. Learn more here. Grab some of your art-loving friends, go to the party, grab a copy of In Montmartre, then join The Hyde Book Club for some great conversation!
