A battle is brewing over at The Hyde Collection in Glens Falls. On Thursday, August 13, from 6:30 to 9:30 pm representatives from The Hyde Collection, The Shirt Factory and LARAC will compete in a collaborative art battle. A Night at the Factory will transport visitors back to the 1960s to the atmosphere of Andy Warhol’s studio known as “the Factory” where he produced experimental art often in collaboration with other artists.
Each organization will have a group of 3 artists who will each be assigned their own canvas in this live painting battle:

The art battle will commence after announcements are made at 6:45 pm and end at 9:00 pm. At this time, the audience will be able to view the artwork up-close on the auditorium stage and make their decision by casting a vote. The winner of the art battle will be announced in the Helen Froehlich Auditorium after all the votes are cast. The winning painting will be exhibited at each of the three venues at a future date.
“A Night at the Factory celebrates the factory of artists and art enthusiasts living right here in our community,” said Erin Coe, Director for The Hyde Collection. “The collaborative art battle, based on Warhol’s famous art collaborations with Jean-Michel Basquiat, is a fun and engaging way for The Hyde to connect with local artists and new audiences, while our current Warhol exhibition is on view.”
“We’re very excited to collaborate with The Hyde and The Shirt Factory on this art battle,” said Jenny Hutchinson, the Gallery Curator and Marketing Coordinator of LARAC. “Art is often only seen by the public in its final state. What makes this event really special is visitors will have the opportunity to partake in the creation of art.”
“The creative process is not something that can be described, it is an experience” said Hannah Williams, former tenant of The Shirt Factory. “I have been doing live art for different events for the past 3 years, every time there is a special connection formed for viewers as they get to engage and be involved in the whole process.”
In addition to observing the creation of collaborative art firsthand, visitors can participate in an Andy Warhol trivia game devised in the spirit of Cards Against Humanity. Food will be available from East End Eatery for purchase in the Museum Lobby and Mean Max Brew Works will be serving their special “Artist Rock” – Red Ale for this event. Wine, cider, and other non-alcoholic beverages will also be available.
The Hyde’s summer exhibitions The Late Drawings of Andy Warhol: 1973-1987, Homer’s America: Selections from the Permanent Collection, and Can You Dig It? will be open that evening for participants to view. The Hyde House will be closed.
The event will take place from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm at The Hyde Collection, 161 Warren Street, Glens Falls, NY in the Wood Gallery. The cost is $25 per non-member / $20 per Hyde member. Price includes 2 drink tickets and admission. Must be 21 years or older to participate.
