Here at The Hyde, summer means sharing our gratitude with our dedicated supporters and volunteers during the annual luncheon on the shores of Lake George. Thank you to everyone who joined us in honoring friend and trustee Bernard R. Brown, who has been a leading champion of the Museum for many years.

The 2024 luncheon was also a celebration of The Hyde Collection Docents who have generously volunteered their time, talent, and expertise inspiring visitors and students of all ages.

Introducing 2024 Luncheon Speaker: Paul Grondahl

Paul Grondahl is the Opalka Endowed Director of the New York State Writers Institute at the University at Albany, one of the nation’s pre-eminent literary presenting organizations. Founded in 1983 by Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist William Kennedy with a portion of his MacArthur grant, the Writers Institute has brought more than 2,500 of the world’s greatest writers to the Capital Region. Grondahl is also an award-winning journalist who started at the Albany Times Union in 1984 and worked at the paper as a full-time reporter and columnist until he joined the Writers Institute in 2017.

He teaches a freshman writing workshop at UAlbany and continues to contribute a weekly column to the Times Union. He is also the author of political biographies of Albany Mayor Erastus Corning, Theodore Roosevelt and several other non-fiction books.
