Accessibility at The Hyde

Wheelchair Accessibility

The entire complex is accessible by wheelchair with two exceptions: the guest bedroom downstairs and Mrs. Hyde’s bedroom upstairs.

Mobility Options and Assistive Hearing Devices

The Hyde Collection offers multiple wheelchairs, a knee scooter and a rollator to assist our visitors with their mobility needs while on site. Assistive hearing devices are available upon request for use on tours and during programs.

Elevator

An elevator is available from the ground floor, and allows visitors to access the second floor of Hyde House as well as the Art Studio and Auditorium on the lower level.

Service Animals

Service animals are welcome in the Museum, provided they are leashed and under the control of their owner, as required by law. They must wear a service identification jacket or vest.

Parking

Parking lots are available on both sides of the Museum complex, as well as along Warren Street. Look for “Parking” signage on the west side in front of Hoopes House, along Warren Street, and at the entrance to the east lot. Spaces for people with disabilities and special needs parking are located in the smaller parking area in front of Hyde House.

Directly in front of the Museum entrance is a drop off circle, where visitors with limited mobility can be dropped off or picked up with closer proximity to the entrance. We ask that visitors using the circle do not leave their vehicle unattended. (The circle is also a fire lane and we appreciate your cooperation to keep parking here brief so that the space is available in the event of an emergency.)

Restrooms

There is a gender-neutral family restroom on the ground level near the entrance to Hyde House. This restroom is complete with a changing table. There are also women’s and men’s designated restrooms with multiple stalls available on the lower level.

Coatroom and Lockers

The lobby coatroom is available with hangers for coats, jackets, umbrellas, strollers, and large bags. Lockers are also available for anyone with a large bag that exceeds the size limit for exploring the Museum*. If you are interested in a locker during your visit, please ask the front desk for a key to use a locker, and our visitor services associate will help you.

Museum Bag Policy

Due to increased incidents of damage and graffiti in museums around the world, visitors to The Hyde will be required to have their personal baggage screened by security upon arrival. *Any bags or contents of bags that are deemed unsafe will be denied entry, including any bag that exceeds the dimensions of 14” X 12” X 4”.

Bags that are permitted must be worn across the visitor’s chest to avoid accidental contact with artwork. Backpacks are not permitted. Visitors are encouraged to secure their personal belongings in their vehicle or in one of the lockers provided in the coat room. We recognize that this may create a hardship for some guests. Protecting our visitors and our art collection are of our utmost concern. We appreciate your cooperation.
