Benefits(Full and partial sponsorships are available for all programs) School Programs:Program Cost: $30,000 Each year, The Hyde Collection introduces over 5,000 preschool to college level students to the world of art and history at no cost to them or their respective schools. Our commitment to education begins with the very mission of the Museum to promote and cultivate the study and improvement of the fine arts, for the education and benefit of the residents of Glens Falls and vicinity and the general public. School programs vary and are designed to meet the needs of the student and teacher reflecting the curriculum in both grade level and subject matter. 16 program options are offered, but special requests are always welcome. Tours can also incorporate a studio art project, offering a hands-on experience related to the current exhibition or the permanent collection. With outside support, The Hyde Collection can continue to serve as a free resource to our schools, giving students what is often their first true encounter with the world of art and history. Students will see works of art from ancient Greece, the Middle Ages, and the Renaissance, and paintings by various masters of Western art, including Rembrandt, Rubens, Picasso, and Renoir. They will enjoy intriguing temporary exhibitions and thought-provoking discussions and activities. The relevance of The Hyde Collection lies in its ability to engage students in programs that meet New York State Learning Standards while preparing students for features of their standardized achievement tests. School Programs inspire critical thinking through inquiry-based tours and object-based learning requiring analysis, reflection, and dialogue. School Programs are Free of Charge and can be customized to curriculum and classroom needs. Annual Regional Juried High School Art ShowProgram Cost: $5,000 To have your work displayed at a world-class fine arts museum is the dream of a young artist one that The Hyde makes come true. For area high school students with a talent and a need for self-expression through art, showing their work at The Hyde Collection is the epitome of success. We present this exhibition each spring with the hope that the experience validates the time and effort these teens have spent creating their drawings, paintings, and photographs and sculptures, and encourages a future that includes art. Showcased in the exhibition each year are 100 works by students from Warren, Washington, and Saratoga counties. A jury, chosen by teachers, selects five Best in Show winners and one work is selected by the Museum's director to receive the Director's Choice award. ARTfull AfternoonsProgram Cost: $10,000 For 10 months out of the school year, The Hyde Collection's education department offers a once a week, after school education program free of charge to children ages 6 to 12. Each week's lesson includes a tour of a temporary exhibition or aspect of the permanent collection; a look at an individual artist, style, or era; a multi-media project related to the theme; and ample art studio time, with art materials set up in stations for creative experimentation. Sample lesson plans include: Cabin Fever, focusing on architecture; Pop Heart, examining the work of Pop Artists such as Andy Warhol; and Story Quilts, based upon the pre-Civil War tradition of quilt-making with a focus on the Underground Railroad. Approximately 1,200 children and accompanying adults attend ARTfull Afternoons yearly. Monthly Family ActivityProgram Cost: $5,000 One Sunday of each month family units of any type, size, and proportion are invited to participate in an art activity at The Hyde Collection. Corresponding most often with a temporary exhibition, Museum educators strive to educate the children and their families about art while offering a fun experience. A related hands-on project in the Louis P. Brown Art Studio follows a tour of the exhibition, with everyone present encouraged to participate. Attendance at monthly family activities has grown tremendously since their inception in 1996. We currently attract over 300 families yearly with this program. Vacation Art Studio ClassesProgram Cost: $5,000 Art Studio Classes provide opportunities for children to have positive out of school experiences with a community institution dedicated to the enjoyment of fine art. This program provides an alternative to negative choices during out of school time that can begin a pattern of lifetime learning. Vacation Art Studio Classes are conducted during each school vacation. A variety of experiences with studio art and art history are offered to students from Grades 2-6.
