Hyde to hold vacation art classes for kids

Children in grades two through six can explore their artistic skills this February school break at The Hyde Collection. During President’s Week, the Museum will hold two sessions of its popular Children’s Vacation Art Studio Classes.

According to The Hyde’s Museum Educator Courtney Roberts, the sessions introduce participants to studio art, including materials and techniques, such as print-making. In addition, attendees will tour the Museum as part of session activities.

“Students get a chance to make large-scale paintings, sculptures, and even to draw in historic Hyde House,” said Roberts. “Our Vacation Art Studio Classes give children insights into the world of art and hands-on experience making art.”

The first session is scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, February 17 and 18; the second session will be held on Wednesday and Thursday, February 19 and 20, 2009. Session hours for all four days are 10:00 am to

12:30 pm. Cost for a two-day session is $20 each for children of Hyde members; $30 for all others. Cost includes an instructor fee, art studio materials, tours, and snacks.

Registration in advance is required and can be made by phone at 518-792-1761, ext. 17. Callers are asked to specify the session for which they are making the reservation or state that they wish to enroll for both sessions. Space is limited and reservations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis.
