Introducing HYDE NIGHT OUT
The Hyde Collection announced today that it will extend its Museum hours on Thursday evenings throughout the month of August to 7:00 pm. This new initiative, titled Hyde Night Out, will also pair the extended hours with fun, participatory programming for the community.
Hyde Night Out kicks off with artist Victoria Palermo, who will lead a discussion of Camp Iris, her site-specific sculpture, which is installed on The Hyde's front lawn. The series continues will art and yoga in the galleries on August 11; a gallery tour with The Hyde's curator, Jonathan Canning, on August 18; and the Museum's second annual Art Battle on August 25. August 4 - Hyde Night Out | Lecture, Shelter from the Storm: Interactions with Contemporary Sculpture
Victoria Palermo presents an illustrated talk about the premise for her outdoor sculpture Camp Iris, which is on view at The Hyde this summer. Palermo will discuss the process of bringing her work to fruition, its relation to our Adirondack heritage, and its relation to The Hyde. She will also discuss trends in contemporary sculpture. Victoria Palermo exhibits both two- and three-dimensional work in galleries and venues across the country, and she has received reviews in national media including Sculpture magazine and the New York Times. She's had solo exhibitions at the Williams College Museum of Art, Williamstown, MA; the Conduit Gallery in Dallas Texas; John Davis Gallery in Hudson, NY; Marseille, France; and the Courthouse Gallery in Lake George, NY. Her public projects include a site-specific commissioned work at the Albany International Airport and a bus shelter built on Main Street in North Adams, MA, sponsored by MASS MoCA. Palermo has received awards from the New York Foundation for the Arts and the New York State Council on the Arts; she has been an artist in residence at Yaddo.
August 11 - Hyde Night Out | Art & Yoga
Join yoga instructor Robin Weber for an evening of relaxation among the great artworks of Dürer and Rembrandt in the Charles R. Wood Gallery. This unique yoga class is open to all experience levels. Yoga mats will be available to borrow, or participants can bring their own. Space is limited; RSVP required. To RSVP, call Colette at 518-792-1761.
Robin Weber, an established yoga practitioner, has been teaching yoga since 2011. She received her 200-hour Yoga Alliance Certification in Vinyasa and Hatha Interdisciplinary from Frog Lotus Yoga in North Adams, Massachusetts and continues to attend yoga workshops on regular basis.

August 18 - Hyde Night Out | Gallery Talk
Hyde Curator Jonathan Canning will lead a gallery tour of the current exhibitions Dürer & Rembrandt: Master Prints from the Collection of Dr. Dorrance Kelly and The Hydes & Rembrandt. He will draw out personal characteristics of the two great printmakers from their works and uncover the fascinating history of Louis and Charlotte Hydes’ purchase of the Museum’s masterpiece by Rembrandt, Christ with Folded Arms. August 25 - Hyde Night Out | Art Battle: Face Off
The Hyde is thrilled to host its second annual Art Battle. This year's theme is Face Off. Working from live models, several professional artists will simultaneously sketch portraits while the audience cheers them on. The finished work will hang in the Museum's Hoopes Gallery until September 4, where audience members and visitors can vote for their favorites. Refreshments will be available. General admission is $15; $13 for seniors; free for members, children 12 and younger, students with ID, veterans, and active military and their family. There is free admission for seniors Wednesdays and the Second Sunday of each month is free for everyone.
