Hyde announces 2010 Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region award winners

Glens Falls, NY – This weekend, The Hyde Collection held the artists’ reception and award ceremony for the 2010 Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region exhibition on Saturday evening and opened the exhibition to the public on Sunday.

Charles Desmarais, Deputy Director for Art at the Brooklyn Museum, served as this year’s juror and spoke to the artists at the awards event. Fifteen awards were presented to artists who were among the seventy-two with works selected for the exhibition. The major awards for the exhibition were the purchase of three pieces – one each by The Albany Institute of History & Art; the University Art Museum, University at Albany; and The Hyde Collection – the three institutions which hold the exhibition on a rotating basis. Recipients of the purchase awards are Jane Bloodgood-Abrams of Kingston, NY (The Hyde Collection Purchase Award); Jeri Eisenberg of East Greenbush, NY (Albany Institute of History & Art Purchase Award); and John Hampshire of Troy, NY (Dr. Arthus C. Collins ’48 Purchase Award, University at Albany Alumni Association for the University Art Museum).

The geographic reach of the 2010 Artists of the Mohawk-Hudson Region exhibition, which is on display through January 2, 2011, was expanded to include submissions from artists within a 100-mile radius of both Albany and Glens Falls. Nearly 1500 works from 340 artists were submitted for judging. Exhibiting artists hailed from as far north as Whitehall, NY; south to Poughkeepsie, NY; east to North Bennington, VT, and west to Clayville, NY.

The exhibition, founded in 1936, is one of the longest-running annual juried shows in the country and highlights the finest works of contemporary artists working along the Mohawk-Hudson corridor. In connection with this year’s exhibition, Charles Desmarais also curated an Annex Show from the works submitted for the final jury process. Host for the Annex Show is the Tom Myott Gallery in the Shirt Factory Building in Glens Falls. This annex exhibition will run through October 23.

Non-member admission throughout the duration of the exhibition is by donation, suggested at $5. A full-color catalogue produced for the exhibition is also available. Sponsors for the exhibition are Ames Goldsmith Corp., NBT Bank, and Spiral Design Studio, LLC.
