Andrew Wyeth exhibition opens this weekend

This weekend, multiple events will mark the debut of The Hyde's exclusive Andrew Wyeth: An American Legend exhibition. The show, which runs through September 5, 2010, is the first major exhibition of this celebrated American artist’s work in New York State in more than ten years.

Opening weekend events are:

· Saturday, June 12 from 10 am – 5 pm – A special Member Preview Day where current and new members can view the exhibition free of charge. Music and light refreshments will also be available throughout the event. Individuals who wish to join the Museum for the first time and attend the Member Preview Day can do so by purchasing their membership at the door. As part of The Hyde’s 2010 membership drive, many membership level rates are being offered at a 25% discount during the run of the exhibition.

· Sunday, June 13 – noon – 5 pm – Andrew Wyeth: An American Legend opens to the public. Admission is $10; $8 for seniors and students with ID, and $5 for Hyde members. Children under the age of 14 are admitted free.

Forty-six watercolors, drybrush, and tempera works, as well as pencil studies by Wyeth, will be on display. Many of the works are on loan from the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, Maine along side other works from such major museums as the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and the Shelburne Museum, as well as from private collections.

In addition to the exhibition, The Hyde is collaborating with area arts and community organizations to present Celebrating Wyeth’s America - a series of lectures, exhibitions, performances, and community events - all with Wyeth-related themes. Series partners include Crandall Public Library, The Curiosity Forum, LARAC, Marcella Sembrich Opera Museum, Music from Salem, North Country Arts Center at Glens Falls City Hall Gallery and the Upper Hudson Valley Watercolor Society.

For more information, pick up the Wyeth calendar of events in the lobby or Museum Store, or at any of our Celebrating Wyeth's America partner locations.
