Calling All Artists

imageOn Saturday, August 9, 2014 artists are invited to bring their palettes, easels, chairs, brushes, and TALENT to Glens Falls and go outside to paint what inspires them. The 1st annual city-wide Paint Out is taking place and we want as many artists as possible to create an al fresco painting frenzy!

All professional, intermediary, or beginning artists are welcome to participate.

Artists are welcome to set up anywhere within Glens Falls but the following organizations welcome you to consider painting outside their location: Chapman Historical Museum; The Glens Falls Farmer’s MarketThe Feeder Canal; The Folklife Center at Crandall Public Library; The Hyde Collection; Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council; The Shirt Factory; The Wood Theater; and the World Awareness Children’s Museum.

Once the art work is completed, artists are encouraged to give back to the community by participating in a charitable, PopUp Show where the work will be hung for display and sold. Fifty percent of the proceeds from the sale of the art will go back to the artist and the other fifty percent to The Open Door’s Code Blue Emergency Winter Shelter and Homeless Shelter projects fund. This is optional but encouraged. This event will take place as part of The Shirt Factory's LocalFest on Saturday, September 6, 2014 from 10:00am to 5:00pm.  Participating artists must drop off their work at The Shirt Factory Gallery between 12noon – 5:00pm, Wednesday, September 3 through Friday, September 5. All work must be unframed. If the work is on canvas, it must be wired in the back to hang for display.

If the work doesn’t sell, it’s the responsible of the artist to pick up their work at 5:00 pm on September 6. Unclaimed work will be donated as The Shirt Factory does not have storage space to hold the work. Contact The Shirt Factory at (518) 9074478 or shirtfactorygf@gmail.com for further questions.

For those artists who would like a refresher course, or if you’re a beginner and want to learn more, the Lower Adirondack Regional Arts Council is offering a series of plein air workshops with artist Tom Ryan. The three classes being offered are:  Plein Air Basics – Set Up and Supplies on Wednesday, July 30, 2014 from 6pm-8pm; Plein Air Basics – Design Principles on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 6pm-8pm; and Plein Air Outing – Two Sessions: one on August 1 and the other on August 8 from 9:00am to 12noon.  Each workshop priced individually at $10 LARAC members/$15 non-members. Discounted package for all four sessions: $30 LARAC members; $50 non-members. For more information contact LARAC at 518-798-1144, ext. 2 or gallery@larac.org.

If you are not familiar with Glens Falls and need assistance or ideas as to where to set up your canvas on the day of the Paint Out event, stop by LARAC, 7 Lapham Place at City Park from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Someone will be there to answer your questions and offer you options.
