Ansel Adams: Later Works from the Collection of Robert and Jane Lewit



This exhibition features seven gelatin silver photographs by Ansel Adams on loan from the collection of Robert and Jane Lewit. The photographs were printed ca. 1976-1977 from earlier negatives. The exhibit includes Adams's iconic images "Pine Forest in Snow, Yosemite" (ca. 1932), "Sierra Nevada Winter from Owens Valley" (ca. 1944), and "Redwoods, Bull Creek Flat, Northern California" (ca. 1960). These enlarged, high-contrast photographs printed on glossy paper stock exemplify Adams's late printing style.

Emerging from the Shadows: Edward Hopper and his Contemporaries



Edward Hopper (1882-1967) engaged in the aesthetic of shadows and their primacy in representation. Hopper's use of shadows is a signature motif of his work and an integral part of its power to enthrall viewers, emphasizing the sense of alienation, anonymity, and isolation of the human condition. The exhibition will feature approximately twenty-five works on paper by ten artists, primarily etchings on loan from museums, private collections, and selected from The Hyde’s permanent collection.

Larry Kagan: Lying Shadows



The exhibition will feature over twenty wall-mounted steel sculptures, illustrating the development of a conceptual idea, by the contemporary artist Larry Kagan. For the past fifteen years, Kagan has been engaged with the process of creating a hybrid form of sculpture that combines the solid component of a steel wire sculpture and the specific shadow it casts on the wall in a way that challenges expectations.

Picturing America: Signature Works from the Westmoreland Museum of American Art



The exhibition presents paintings and sculptures that describe the American experience from the pre-Revolutionary War era to early Modernism. Renowned artists represented in this exhibition include Milton Avery, Mary Cassatt, John Singleton Copley, Childe Hassam, Robert Henri, George Inness, Paul Manship, John Sloane, and Benjamin West, as well as Charles Willson Peale and his children Rembrandt, Rubens, and Mary Jane.

Anne Diggory: Hybrid Visions


Location: Hoopes Gallery

The exhibition will feature recent work by the artist Anne Diggory. Her new works expolore "hybrid media," a multi-layered process combining sections of photography and painting. The exhibition will feature a selection of her dramatic landscapes that juxtapose moving water and changing skies against the seeming permanence of the land.
