Inside/Out was an installation by conceptual artists Margo Mensing and Susie Brandt that allowed visitors to "access" Hyde House while it was closed for interior and exterior restoration. The artists spent two years shadowing docent tours of Hyde House, the historic home of Museum founders Louis and Charlotte Hyde, to understand how this house and its contents impact the lives of people in the community, and, in turn, how these community members influence the collection. The artists consider the docent as a central figure in shaping the visitors' experience.  A major component of this exhibition was a large screen video production featuring a sequence of five docents each discussing the same four objects in Hyde House with a small group of visitors.  The impact of the collection on the community was addressed through an installation of photographs and text. The artists documented with photos the ways in which members of the "Hyde" community incorporated reproductions of works from the collection they purchased through the Museum gift shop into their own homes.
