In connection with the 2008 Glens Falls Centennial, The Hyde Collection will proudly present A Glens Falls Legacy: The Pruyn Family in the Charles R. Wood Gallery. The Pruyn family, of Finch, Pruyn and Company fame, exerted a tremendous impact on the economic, cultural, educational, and civic life of Glens Falls from its earliest days. The exhibition will be divided into two installations that explore the Pruyn family legacy, their cultural pursuits, and contributions to the city of Glens Falls.

The first exhibition, A Shared Life: Selections from the Pruyn Family Collection, will highlight a range of personal artifacts and fine and decorative arts associated with the Pruyn family beginning with the family patriarch Samuel Pruyn, his wife Eliza Jane, and their three daughters: Charlotte Hyde, founder of The Hyde Collection, Mary Eliza Hoopes, and Nell Cunningham. The second installation, A Landscape Revealed: Photographs of the Pruyn Sisters’ Gardens, will feature twenty-five historic photographs of the beautifully landscaped seven-acre property that once joined the homes of the three Pruyn sisters. The photographs, dating from the early 1900s to the 1940s, depict the sweeping vistas and large lawns revealing one expansive landscape design for this family estate.

A Glens Falls Legacy: The Pruyn Family is organized by The Hyde Collection and curated by Erin B. Coe.
